At the end of August I completed another Action Challenge Ultra Challenge: the South Coast Challenge between Eastbourne and Arundel. This was another 100km walk and my second this year. I was actually quite nervous going in as I really hadn’t done any training like I had for London2Cambridge or London2Brighton.
Today, exactly one year ago, my good friend Emma married her dashing husband Stuart at Eshott Hall, Northumberland. We had a wonderful time celebrating with the newlyweds and it seems like the last year has gone by in the blink of an eye.
We’ve just returned from a wonderful evening at King’s Place, London, where we saw Music and the Deaf’s 4ORTE Ensemble perform a moving selection of solo, accompanied and ensemble musical pieces. Music and the Deaf are a UK-based charity promoting musical opportunities for deaf children worldwide through workshops, talks and training sessions.
Unless you’ve been avoiding social media in the last week, it won’t have escaped your notice that i’ve been doing another challenge. I successfully completed the London2Brighton 100km Ultra Challenge last weekend, 28th - 29th May 2016, raising money in aid of Kith & Kids; a charity that supports and empowers people with a learning disability or autism.
When we visited Dell Farm Outdoor Education Centre back in March, we sadly missed out on a trip to the zoo owing to bad weather. Needless to say, when we returned to Dell Farm last weekend, I was more than a little excited to discover that ZSL Whipsnade Zoo was once again on the agenda. Unlike London Zoo, that we also visited back in March, Whipsnade Zoo is more open plan; almost like a safari park except with limited drive-through opportunities.
My TimeHop app reminded me this week that we’d been to London Zoo this time two year’s ago to see the newborn tiger cubs - as it turned out we only got to see them via a video monitor - so what better opportunity to revisit with the added delight of taking our friend to see her first zoo!
Last weekend we took four of our Kith & Kids members to Dell Farm Outdoor Education Centre in Whipsnade. Kith & Kids run these respite weekends several times a year and this was my second visit. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the farm lodgings have all the facilities needed for a short break away - several bedrooms, wetrooms, a communal dining room and kitchen - while the farm itself has several small animals to visit in their pens right next door.
This will probably be the third and final post in my little Madrid series (until we return again, of course), the others being our visits to Parque de El Retiro and Salón des Fleurs
Just a short post today, partly in response to the photo-a-day prompt ‘Treat’, and to continue the highlights of our trip to Madrid last week. On Sunday we made time for tea at Salón des Fleurs, a beautiful little cafe on Calle de Guzmán el Bueno. I called ahead and booked us a midday treat.
Following on from my last post with it’s nature-inspired musical compositions, I thought i’d follow up with the blissful day we spent meandering through Parque de El Retiro in central Madrid last weekend.
